Drawing is not formal or an exclusive activity for “artists”; it is an activity that teaches you AS you do it - no matter how well you think you’re doing it! The active participation of drawing teaches you intimately about the thing you are drawing – a sustained looking that puts you in the moment, a focus that calms and is an ultimate relief to the fast -paced digital world we inhabit. You will never be the same.

In this 4-week class, which repeats throughout the year, we will continue with our drawing adventure, practicing and honing skills we began in Part 1. We will focus on pencil and pen techniques, exploring more shading methods and materials. You will learn how to observe and shade using smooth realistic shading as well as cross hatching and other line type shading methods. Pen and ink techniques are explored in the same way, which is beautiful on its own, but is also very useful for you urban sketchers out there!

There will be continual review of observational drawing techniques and using certain “tools” to help you see, all the while learning about depicting textures and shading in the world.  Animals are often our subject as their texture is so varied.

Since we’re “Staying Home” these days, we are offering this 4-week class as an online course. It will include live sessions with Julia’s instruction and demos, and you’ll get to interact during Q&A times where you’ll also be able to get feedback on your work. In addition - and this is a cool bonus for online classes - you’ll be able to download the sessions to play and replay as many times as you want. This is also a great benefit if you have to step away for a few minutes or even miss a session.

This class is for beginner to intermediate drawers.
